Small Parts, Serious Consequences
A leaf spring is only ever as reliable as the hardware clamping it to the axle and chassis. Correctly torqued U-bolts and centre bolts keep the spring pack aligned and locked in place; worn bushes and pins let the suspension move where it shouldn't, causing clunking, uneven tyre wear, and — if ignored — sudden spring or axle failure while driving.
Whenever we supply a new leaf spring, we always check the accompanying hardware. It's far cheaper to replace a worn bush, pin, or bolt today than to deal with a failed suspension component on the road.

1Why do U-bolts need to be replaced when I replace my leaf springs?
U-bolts stretch slightly every time they are torqued down, and re-using stretched U-bolts on a new spring pack means they may not clamp with the same force. We recommend fitting new U-bolts whenever a spring pack is replaced, matched to your axle diameter and spring pack height.
2What happens if a centre bolt shears?
A sheared centre bolt allows the spring leaves to shift out of alignment with the axle seat, which can cause the spring pack to walk sideways under load, uneven tyre wear, and in severe cases loss of vehicle control. If you notice a clunking noise or the spring pack sitting off-centre on the axle, have it inspected immediately.
3Rubber or bronze bushes — which should I choose?
Rubber bushes are the standard choice for most passenger and light commercial vehicles, offering good vibration and noise dampening. Bronze bushes are harder-wearing and preferred for heavy-duty, off-road, or commercial fleet applications where load and wear resistance matter more than ride comfort.
4Do you supply and fit these components, or supply only?
Both. We supply U-bolts, centre bolts, bushes, hangers and pins as parts only for customers or workshops that want to fit them themselves, and we also offer full fitting at our Harare workshop for anyone who wants the job done and torqued correctly on-site.
5Can you match accessories to a spring you're not supplying?
Yes. Many customers come to us just for U-bolts, centre bolts, bushes, hangers or pins to match an existing spring set-up, whether we supplied the springs or not. Bring in the old part or your axle and spring dimensions and we'll match it.
